Poland Ready to Pay $15,000 for Each U.S. Service Member Stationed in Poland

Poland is ready to pay $15,000 a year for each U.S. service member stationed in Poland and cover infrastructure costs.

Polish Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Zalewski said this in an interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

Warsaw is currently discussing the establishment of a permanent U.S. military presence in Poland with the Pentagon.

The talks concern the number of service members, their capabilities and possible locations.

“We are discussing with the Pentagon different variations of the execution of the decision,” Zalewski said.

He said Poland was ready to cover the costs associated with hosting U.S. service members.

“We are offering very special conditions for American troops. We will cover the costs of infrastructure. We are also covering the cost of each American soldier stationing in Poland by $15,000 per year,” the deputy minister said.

Zalewski declined to specify which U.S. units could be deployed or where they could be stationed.

He said the details of the permanent deployment remain subject to negotiations.

Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said on June 3 that he had submitted an official proposal to the Pentagon chief for the establishment of a new permanent U.S. military base in Poland.

On September 17, U.S. President Donald Trump said there had been significant progress in negotiations on establishing a new U.S. military base in Poland.

A U.S. delegation has already inspected several potential deployment sites. Two options are currently under consideration — Poznań and Powidz.
