The Romanian Ministry of Defense, after analyzing the wreckage, officially confirmed that a residential high-rise building in the city of Galați was hit by a Russian Geran-2 drone (Shahed).

This was stated in a corresponding press release by the ministry.

At the scene, experts found identifiable drone fragments, including a carbon-fiber frame with Cyrillic markings. The inscription Geran-2 was preserved on one of the fuselage elements.

In addition, a CRPA antenna of the Kometa type, elements of a two-stroke piston internal combustion engine, a servo motor and other components typical of drones of this type were found.

According to the Romanian Defense Ministry, all the evidence found is identical in design and purpose to elements previously seized after the crash of Geran-2 drones in the country’s border areas and attributed to Russian weapons.

Romania’s President Nicușor Dan said that the results of a comprehensive investigation confirm the Russian origin of the drone.

“Based on all these elements, the investigation unequivocally concludes that the fragments recovered in Galați come from a Geran-2 drone of Russian origin. The fact that such a device struck a residential building in Romania, causing injuries and material damage, is of particular gravity, and the sole responsible party is Russia.,” he wrote.

The incident occurred on the night of May 29. As a result of the explosion of the drone’s warhead and the subsequent fire, two people were injured. The woman received first-degree burns, and the 14-year-old teenager suffered an acute stress reaction.

Both were hospitalized and provided with the necessary medical assistance.

Two F-16 fighter jets were taken from the Fetești airbase at 01:19 to intercept the air target, operating with support from an IAR 330 SOCAT helicopter.

The Romanian pilots had permission to use weapons, but they did not engage the drone. After the drone entered the country’s airspace, residents of Tulcea, Galați and Brăila counties were warned about the threat via the Ro-Alert system.

The Russian drone crash was reported at around 01:53.
