Finland will allocate an additional EUR 40 million to purchase US weapons for Ukraine under the PURL program.
Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo made the announcement during the opening of the Conference on Ukraine’s Recovery in Gdańsk, according to “European Pravda.”
He noted that Finland’s defense support for Ukraine remains strong.
“Today I am pleased to announce that my government has decided to allocate an additional EUR 40 million to the PURL initiative,” the Finnish Prime Minister announced.
According to him, the Finnish government has already provided a total of 33 military aid packages to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Orpo assured that Finland will continue to support Ukraine as a future member of the European Union.
The country joined the PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) program last October. At that time, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Finland’s EUR 100 million contribution.
The PURL program allows NATO member countries to purchase US military equipment and weapons for Ukraine.
As part of the initiative, a priority list of necessary weapons and ammunition is compiled based on Ukrainian requests.
In late May, Finnish President Alexander Stubb approved the allocation of the 33rd military aid package to Ukraine, worth approximately EUR 128 million.
Earlier, Finland also allocated $300 million in defense support for Ukraine following a meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. The key focus is on air defense.
Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha confirmed Ukraine’s readiness to assist the Baltic states and Finland in preventing drone intrusions into their airspace, in particular by sending specialists.
