Denmark will allocate €830 million in 2025 to purchase weapons from Ukrainian manufacturers

Denmark will allocate €830 million from the frozen assets of the Russian Federation to finance the purchase of weapons from Ukrainian manufacturers.

According to the agreement signed between Denmark and the European Union, the country will take the lead in distributing the proceeds of frozen Russian assets in 2025.

As part of this, Denmark, on behalf of the EU, will allocate €830 million in 2025 for military support to Ukraine, primarily for the purchase of weapons from the Ukrainian defense industry.

“Given the geopolitical situation, it is important to show that we support Ukraine. Thanks to the Danish model, Denmark has taken the lead in international efforts to strengthen defense production in Ukraine,” said Troels Lund Poulsen, Danish Minister of Defense.

According to him, purchasing weapons directly from Ukrainian producers, in addition to supporting Ukraine’s economy, also allows for the development of the local defense industry and better adaptation to local realities.

Another important factor is the cost of weapons: you can buy a lot more of them for less money than if you buy them from European or American defense companies.

“Ukraine’s own production facilities provide competitive prices and allow us to adapt to Ukraine’s needs faster. In addition, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive equipment that they are already familiar with and can maintain on their own,” the minister added.

It should be noted that Denmark became the first country to finance the purchase of weapons for the Defense Forces through Ukrainian defense companies. In 2024, the country allocated €400 million for the purchase of weapons, and the financing allowed the Defense Forces to be equipped with additional drones, artillery systems and shells.

“In this way, we ensure that the urgent military needs of Ukrainians can be produced and supplied locally. This provides obvious logistical advantages and also contributes to the development of Ukraine’s defense industry for the future. Now we can do this on an even larger scale,” said Troels Lund Poulsen.

Earlier, Militarnyi reported that Denmark has allocated DKK 317 million (approximately €42.5 million euros) for the purchase of artillery shells for Ukraine.

The funding is provided as part of the 25th military aid package. The purchase will be made through Estonia.
