Belgian A400M Aircraft Fired Upon During UN Mission in Haiti

A Belgian Air Force A400M military transport aircraft came under fire while on a mission in Haiti.

Belgian Defence Minister Theo Francken reported this on his X page.

The aircraft was able to land safely, and the crew was unharmed.

The multinational mission in Haiti, authorized by the UN Security Council, aims to help local authorities regain control of territories seized by criminal gangs. International forces are providing security at airports and ports and assisting the police in restoring order in the region.

As a reminder, Belgium received its first A400M military transport aircraft in December 2020.

The aircraft is currently operated by the 15th Air Transport Wing of the Belgian Air Force. The unit is based at Melsbroek Airfield near Brussels.

The country has eight such aircraft in service, one of which formally belongs to Luxembourg. Both countries use the aircraft jointly within a combined aviation unit.

These aircraft form the backbone of the country’s transport aviation. Belgian crews regularly carry out logistical missions and participate in operations around the world.
