Finland has calculated the cost of building a fence along the border with Russia.

Previously, the Border Service of Finland had recommended that its government build a fence at some sections of the interstate border with Russia.

€139 million ($143.4 million) will be allocated from the Finnish budget for this construction, according to Reuters news agency.

It should be noted that currently Finland has a forest-covered state border with Russia, which is still only marked with signs and plastic lines for most of its 1,300 km (810 mile) length.

The country’s state border guard authority has said it aims to construct 130-260 km of fences, covering 10-20% of the overall length of the interstate border.

It will cover, in particular, border crossing points and adjacent areas in southeast Finland.

The agency also added that the country’s parliament has already allocated six million euros for a trial project.

Finland announced in June 2022 that the fence would be constructed in some areas along its border with the Russian Federation to increase preparedness against hybrid threats, such as a potential mass influx of migrants.

It was also reported that border surveillance has already been strengthened and attempts at illegal crossing will be noticed by the relevant services.

As previously reported, Finland is transferring the 10th batch of defense aid to Ukraine. The cost of the new shipment is €55.6 million. The combined value of all defense aid packages transferred by Finland to Ukraine by now is €160.4 million.

“Ukraine continues to need support in defending its territory. The range of defense materiel being sent now is largest so far,” says Antti Kaikkonen, Minister of Defence.

The content and terms of assistance are not disclosed for security reasons. At the same time, it is noted that the transferred aid corresponds to Ukraine’s request and takes into account the resource situation of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
