The US supplies Ukraine with only 12 interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems per month – approximately four times fewer than under President Joe Biden’s administration.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in an interview with Bloomberg.

Meanwhile, Washington is delaying approval for the transfer of some supplies that Ukraine has already paid for.

According to Zelensky, Ukraine has already paid for weapons, including missiles designed to intercept ballistic targets under the PURL programme. However, the US has approved only part of the deliveries.

“We paid for the weapons. The US side approved some of the deliveries, but not the rest. And this is not a technical issue,” the president said.

Separately, Zelensky also proposed a deal to Washington. Ukraine would halt strikes on Russian facilities linked to diesel fuel production in exchange for supplies of Patriot missiles to protect Ukrainian cities and infrastructure fromRussian ballistic missiles.

However, despite these delays, Ukraine was given the opportunity in September to allocate approximately €3.2 billion to purchase Patriot interceptor missiles under the €90 billion Ukraine Support Loan programme for 2026–2027.

Overall, the European Commission has approved the use of €6.1 billion to purchase air defense missiles, including US-made PAC-3 interceptors, as well as drones.

Ukraine is also contracting for the supply of around 1,000 Patriot missiles using funds from a European loan, according toUkrainian Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara.

However, most of these missiles are expected to be delivered over the coming years.

Separately, in June, Germany announced $400 million in funding to purchase interceptor missiles for Patriot systems, primarily PAC-3 missiles.

Half of the amount will be allocated through the PURL programme, which finances purchases of US weapons forUkraine, while the other half will be provided through the JUMPSTART mechanism.

In September, the United Kingdom allocated £100 million for an air defense package that included Patriot missiles, artillery ammunition, and drones.
