Ukraine Signs Contract for About 1,000 Missiles for the Patriot System Using EU Funds — Defense Minister

Ukraine is signing contracts with partners to supply about 1,000 missiles for the Patriot air defense systems using an EU loan.

This was announced by Ukrainian Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara during the opening of a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukrainian Defense in the Ramstein format, according to Interfax-Ukraine. According to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, €3.2 billion will be allocated for this purpose.

“We are signing contracts with our partners to supply approximately 1,000 missiles for the Patriot systems, funded by an EU loan,” Khmara said.

According to the defense minister, most of the missiles under the new contracts will be delivered only over the next few years.

Khmara is also asking allies to provide 300 missiles for the Patriot systems from their own existing stockpiles immediately.

In exchange for the missiles provided, countries are being offered future-generation, upgraded munitions that are currently being ordered under new contracts.

The United Kingdom has already allocated 100 million pounds sterling for a new air defense package for Ukraine ahead of the winter season.
