Unknown individuals damaged railway tracks in Russia’s Bryansk region during the night of September 29 while a train was traveling from Smolensk to Bryansk.
Regional head Yegor Kovalchuk reported that the tracks were damaged on the Trosna-Rzhanitsa section.
“The railway tracks on the Trosna-Rzhanitsa section were damaged during the night while the Smolensk-Bryansk train was traveling. There were no casualties,” he wrote.
Train traffic on the section was fully restored in the evening. Meanwhile, it remains unknown who damaged the tracks and how.
Ukraine is known to attack Russian railway infrastructure using drones. On September 28, drones attacked railway infrastructure facilities in several districts of Russia’s Bryansk and Kaluga regions.
Members of the Russian resistance movement may have been involved in the damage to the tracks. An anti-war movement emerged in Russia in 2022, with some of its members shifting from protests to underground actions and sabotage.
This year, members of the Russian resistance movement have reported sabotage targeting railway infrastructure and oil logistics. In particular, Ukrainian intelligence reported an operation during which, according to the agency, more than 10,000 tons of oil were destroyed.
