Germany will transfer a three-digit number of air-to-air missiles from its own stockpiles to Ukraine.
This was reported by European Pravda, citing German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius.
Pistorius stated that Germany will continue to tailor its support to Ukraine’s needs and emphasized that his country’s focus is on air defense.
“We have delivered another IRIS-T system to Ukraine. Very recently, we also expedited the delivery of IRIS-T SLS and IRIS-T SLM missiles. In addition, we will supply a three-digit number of air-to-air missiles from our own stockpiles,” Pistorius said.
It is quite possible that he is referring to AIM-9 or AIM-120 missiles, which are used by Ukrainian F-16s, or to IRIS-T or Meteor missiles for the future Gripen fighters.
Pistorius also noted that Germany will allocate $400 million to purchase additional PAC-3 missiles for Ukraine.
According to him, $200 million will be channeled through the PURL procurement mechanism, and another $200 million will go through the JumpStart program – a special mechanism within the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program.
As a reminder, G7 leaders agreed to increase the supply of air defense systems to Ukraine amid ongoing Russian strikes on cities.
Recently, it was reported that the German government likely financed the purchase of Norwegian NOMADS air defense systems for the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
