Thailand said that on Monday it carried out airstrikes on Cambodian territory after new clashes erupted along the disputed border.

Both countries accused each other of violating the ceasefire that had previously been brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump, Reuters reported.

According to the Thai military, one soldier was killed and eight others were wounded in the fighting. The clashes escalated around midnight Kyiv time, after which aircraft were deployed to strike Cambodian military positions.

The Royal Thai Air Force said that Cambodia had deployed heavy weapons, regrouped combat units, and prepared support elements, which could have led to an escalation.

Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence reported that Thai forces carried out morning attacks on two positions after several days of provocations. Meanwhile, the Cambodian military said they did not return fire.

According to official information, three Cambodian civilians were seriously wounded.

The border dispute between the countries had already led to a five-day conflict in July, after which a ceasefire was reached through the mediation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and U.S. President Donald Trump.
