Sweden to Nearly Double Military Aid to Ukraine by 2025

The Swedish government plans to almost double its military aid to Ukraine by 2025, according to a press release on the government’s website.

The proposal calls for increasing the budget for military assistance from SEK 25 billion to more than SEK 40 billion.

“This will allow Ukraine, which is in a vulnerable position, to urgently strengthen its defense capabilities,” the statement said.

The increase in volumes was made possible by the redistribution of funds from the Framework Program for Ukraine for 2026.

Military aid from Sweden

On March 13, Sweden signed a contract for the production and delivery of 18 Archer self-propelled artillery systems and five ARTHUR counter-battery radars to Ukraine.

The deal, valued at approximately $300 million, is part of Sweden’s 18th military aid package to Kyiv.

Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jönsson said he hopes the new self-propelled howitzers and radars will significantly strengthen Ukraine’s armed forces and increase Russian losses.

In addition, Jönsson announced Sweden’s entry into the artillery coalition – an initiative aimed at coordinating the supply of modern artillery systems, ammunition, and training for Ukrainian forces.

The coalition’s long-term goal is to strengthen Ukraine’s artillery capabilities and enhance its interoperability with NATO.

At the same time, the Swedish government will finance the production of Ukrainian weapons under the “Danish model.”

However, the amount, timeline, and specific weapons covered under the funding have not been disclosed.
