The United States and Iran have agreed to a two-week ceasefire and to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for civilian shipping.

The U.S. President announced this on his Truth Social platform, according to Sky News.

Iran accepted the temporary ceasefire in exchange for a halt to strikes on its territory.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi noted that if the United States adheres to these terms, passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible over the next two weeks.

However, it is still unclear whether both sides will take specific steps toward reconciliation.

Meanwhile, the office of Israel’s prime minister also released an official statement saying that Israel supports the two-week ceasefire and the suspension of strikes in exchange for reopening the strait. However, it noted that the two-week ceasefire does not apply to Lebanon.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critically important shipping route through which about 20% of the world’s oil consumption passes. Its reopening would immediately lower oil and fuel prices, which have nearly doubled since the start of the U.S. war against Iran.

Militarnyi previously reported that the United States and Iran, with the involvement of a group of regional mediators, were discussing the terms of a possible 45-day ceasefire.
