Russia is the most direct threat. NATO’s new strategic concept adopted
Russia - NATO

At the NATO Summit in Madrid, the Alliance’s Strategic Concept was voted on, recognizing Russia as the most direct threat to Allied security.

European Pravda reports about this referencing the document itself.

“The Russian Federation is the most significant and direct threat to the security of Allies, and to peace and stability in the Euro-Atlantic area,” the publication quotes a document that has at its disposal.

Meanwhile, it stresses that Alliance does not seek confrontation and poses no threat to Russia.

“No one should doubt our strength and resolve to defend every inch of Allied territory, preserve the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all Allies, and prevail against any aggressor,” the concept defines.

It is noted that this decision reflects a sharp change in the security situation in Europe due to Russia’s war against Ukraine. As stated in the previous concept adopted back in 2010, NATO was identifying Russia as its strategic partner.

“It ( Russia – Ed.) uses conventional, cyber, and hybrid means against us and our partners. Its coercive military posture, rhetoric, and proven willingness to use force to pursue its political goals undermine the rules-based international order,” the leaders shared in the statement.

As previously reported, the NATO summit will be deciding on the Alliance’s largest military deployment in Eastern Europe.
