France will transfer two more SAMP/T systems to Ukraine later this year and will also expedite the delivery of Aster 30 missiles.

Kyiv and Paris reached this agreement following talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron.

In addition, Ukraine will be the first country to receive the latest Franco-Italian SAMP/T NG air defense systems.

Ukraine will also receive licenses to manufacture SCALP cruise missiles, AASM air-to-ground bombs, and Aster 30 missiles.

Separately, France will join the implementation of the Freya anti-ballistic missile defense program.

SAMP/T is a Franco-Italian long-range air defense missile system.

It is designed to destroy aircraft, cruise missiles, drones, and certain types of ballistic missiles.

The system uses Aster 30 missiles capable of intercepting targets at ranges of up to 120 km (depending on the type of target).

The battery consists of a multifunctional radar, a command post, and launchers.

Ukraine received its first SAMP/T battery from France and Italy in 2023.

The system is used to protect cities and critical infrastructure from Russian air attacks.

As of July 2026, the operation of at least one SAMP/T battery in Ukraine has been officially confirmed.
