The Turkish defense corporation ASELSAN has delivered 200 manufactured HGK-84 guided bomb kits.
This was reported by the company.
The guidance kit converts 908-kg Mk.84 general-purpose free-fall bombs into guided munitions. The HGK-84 uses a combined INS/GPS satellite navigation system, which, according to the manufacturer, allows it to strike targets from a distance of up to 28 km, with a stated circular error probability of less than 10 meters. The variant with an optional laser seeker achieves an accuracy of up to 3 meters and can be used against moving targets.
According to the Ministry of National Defense, the precision guidance kits delivered earlier this year constitute the first batch manufactured and transferred under the current agreement on production with ASFAT.
ASFAT is responsible for coordinating the program, overseeing production, and supplying the products to the Turkish Armed Forces.
Since 2020, the munitions have been carried by F-16s and F-4Es, and since 2021, by the Bayraktar Akinci UAV.
Turkey’s decision to modernize its existing stockpile of standard bombs reduces costs, simplifies logistics, and decreases dependence on foreign licenses, export permits, and deliveries of foreign guided bomb systems.
