Romania Sounds Alarm and Scrambles F-16s Over Unknown Aerial Targets

On the morning of August 24, Romania’s radar system detected unidentified aerial targets in the airspace of Moldova and Romania.

The Romanian Ministry of National Defence reported the incident.

At around 06:00, radars detected intermittent signals in Moldova’s airspace near Cahul, after which one of the signals appeared near the Romanian city of Târgu Bujor in Galați County.

To monitor the situation, two Romanian Air Force F-16 fighter jets and an IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter were scrambled from the 86th Borcea Air Base.

The command center notified the Romanian Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, after which an alert was sent to residents in the affected areas at 06:12.

On August 20, Romania destroyed a naval drone carrying explosives near the Neptun Deep gas field in the Black Sea.

The object was detected several hundred meters from critical infrastructure.
