Poland’s New South Korean KLTV Armored Vehicles Spotted With Anti-Drone Protection

Polish troops have fitted new South Korean KLTV armored vehicles with anti-drone slat armor.

The armored vehicle was spotted during preparations for a parade marking Polish Armed Forces Day and the 106th anniversary of the 1920 Battle of Warsaw.

The vehicle received a modular set of slat armor installed to protect the hull and the area around the gunner’s turret.

Fold-down sections of the slat armor were installed on the sides and can serve as doors for personnel entering and exiting the vehicle.

Similar anti-drone protection was also seen on other military vehicles being prepared for the parade, including the Bóbr-3 reconnaissance vehicle.

These armored vehicles entered Polish military service in April 2024. However, Poland had signed an agreement to procure Kia light reconnaissance vehicles as early as August 2023.

The contract calls for the production of about 400 vehicles. Production localization was arranged at the Rosomak plant, which also manufactures KTO Rosomak wheeled armored personnel carriers.

In the Polish Army, the vehicles are intended to replace the aging fleet of Honker armored vehicles.

In September 2025, Poland’s Ministry of National Defence signed a framework agreement for the delivery of more than 1,200 Legwan military vehicles based on the Kia Light Tactical Vehicle (KLTV) platform.

The framework agreement runs through 2035 and provides for the delivery of 1,266 vehicles in total.

Thanks to their modular design, KLTV vehicles can be configured as anti-tank guided missile carriers, reconnaissance and command vehicles, as well as personnel and cargo carriers.

Militarnyi previously reported that Germany’s 45th Armored Brigade, which is being permanently deployed in Lithuania, had added anti-drone protection to Fuchs armored personnel carriers and Leopard 2 tanks.

LPR 4×4

The LPR (Light Reconnaissance Vehicle) is the Polish version of the South Korean KLTV light tactical vehicle, specifically the armored K153 variant.

The reconnaissance vehicle has a locally produced armored cabin providing Level 1 protection under the NATO STANAG 4569 standard. This is intended to protect against fire from standard 5.56×45 mm and 7.62×51 mm ammunition.

The localized K153 features all-wheel drive and independent suspension. It is powered by a 225-horsepower diesel engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Polish armored vehicles are also equipped with a rotating open turret capable of mounting various weapons, including a heavy machine gun or automatic grenade launcher.

Thanks to its modular design, the armored vehicle can also serve as a platform for an anti-tank guided missile system, mortar, electronic warfare system or modules that convert it into a command vehicle.
