The soldiers of the “Omega” Special Operations Center of the National Guard of Ukraine effectively stormed Russian positions in the Zaporizhzhia sector.
The Center reported that they had engaged their soldiers from the 1st separate detachment in the assault.
Russians have dug in a forested area in one of the sectors in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Before the assault, the Russian position was scouted by Ukrainian drones, which were used to adjust the actions of the assault group.
An American M113 armored personnel carrier with a large-caliber machine gun on its roof was chosen for the assault.
The armored personnel carrier was also equipped with an electronic warfare system intended to suppress the signals of Russian FPV drones.
The M113 crew consists of two people: a mechanic-driver and a commander. The armored personnel carrier can normally carry eleven paratroopers in addition to them.
During the assault, the Ukrainian M113 managed to get close to the Russian position and successfully landed its troops.
Omega group soldiers immediately started moving toward the invaders’ positions in the forest and fired continuously.
During the assault, one of the Ukrainian soldiers was wounded by a fragmentation grenade.
The Russians immediately deployed drones, which the Ukrainians tried to shoot down with small arms, and began to fire artillery at the M113 APC. However, the Omega group soldiers managed to carry out an assault and then leave the battle site in an armored personnel carrier.
The Omega group was established on April 4, 2003, by order of the Commander of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. The unit, which consists of six detachments, is staffed by experienced military personnel who are subordinated to the command of the National Guard of Ukraine.
