The Indian Navy receives a new domestically-built warship or submarine every two months.

Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, the Chief of Naval Staff of India, stated this during his speech at the India Defence Conclave, according to The Economic Times.

He highlighted the strategic emphasis on self-reliant production and technological independence.

According to the admiral, India aims to have more than 200 combat ships and submarines by 2035.

Currently, 52 units are on order, and all of them are being built at Indian shipyards.

He emphasized that the Indian Navy is actively strengthening its capabilities, not only in terms of platforms but also at the component level, with the goal of creating a fully self-sufficient fleet by 2047.

Currently, the Indian Navy has around 145 combat units. At the same time, the admiral stressed that defense self-reliance goes beyond the battlefield – it encompasses industrial ecosystems, innovation chains, and information networks.
