In Moscow, a Russian Anti-Aircraft Missile Destroyed an Oil Storage Tank

A Russian missile, likely from the “Pantsir” anti-aircraft missile and gun system, struck a tank containing petroleum products in Moscow.

This occurred during a morning attack by Ukrainian strike drones on the Russian capital, and the corresponding video was posted by Horat1us_UA on Reddit.

The footage shows the missile striking the petroleum products storage facility, followed by an explosion that sent the tank’s lid flying into the air.

The video also clearly shows the characteristic trail of an anti-aircraft missile.

Overall, several misses were recorded during this attack, which may indicate that the homing heads of the 9M335/57Э6 missiles are not effective against targets such as UAVs.

As a reminder, on the morning of June 18, Ukrainian drones struck the Moscow Oil Refinery, located in the Kapotnya district of Moscow, resulting in a massive fire at the facility.

Footage from local residents shows numerous fires burning across the plant’s grounds. Plumes of thick black smoke rise above the city.

The Kapotnya plant is among the ten largest oil refineries in Russia and supplies about 40% of the Moscow region’s—including Moscow and the surrounding oblast—demand for petroleum products.

The facility has a capacity of 11 million metric tons of crude oil per year. It produces AI-80EK, AI-92EK, and AI-95EK gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, bitumen, sulfur, and various polymers.

Overnight, Ukrainian drones also struck an oil depot in Gukovo, Rostov Oblast, causing storage tanks containing petroleum products to catch fire.

The governor of the Rostov region reported that as a result of the attack, “two fires broke out at commercial facilities,” and a diesel locomotive was damaged.

Eyewitnesses reported a series of explosions near the industrial facility and drones flying overhead prior to the attack.
