Canada Applied to Join JEF Military Coalition

Canada has applied to join the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) coalition, led by the United Kingdom.

This was announced by the office of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney following his meeting with his British counterpart Andy Burnham in northern England, according to Reuters.

Canada’s desire to join this bloc stems from its intention to diversify its defense ties and reduce its military dependence on the United States.

The Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) is a rapid-response coalition established in 2014 at the initiative of the United Kingdom. The alliance is focused on ensuring security in the North Atlantic, the Baltic Sea, and the Arctic regions.

Currently, the JEF comprises 10 Northern European NATO member states: the United Kingdom, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden.

As a reminder, Ukraine became the first country outside the alliance to receive Enhanced Partner status with the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF).

This arrangement allows the Ukrainian Armed Forces to participate in joint exercises, share intelligence, and pass on unique combat experience to allies.
