A Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter jet struck a building used by Russian FPV drone operators with high-precision French AASM Hammer bombs.

Sonyasnyk Telegram channel, affiliated with Ukrainian military aviation, published a video on the incident.

The strike reportedly targeted Russian drone operators responsible for attacks in the Kherson region.

A Ukrainian reconnaissance drone identified the building and captured footage of a Russian soldier exiting the premises and launching an FPV drone from the yard.

The MiG-29 was equipped with two AASM Hammer bombs, a French guidance and propulsion kit for general-purpose bombs.

Similar in function to the American JDAM system, the AASM includes a rear-mounted solid-fuel rocket motor, enabling extended range — up to 15 km from low altitudes and 70 km from high altitudes.

Civilians’ drone terror in the Kherson Region

Russian forces have increasingly relied on FPV drones and improvised munitions dropped from commercial drones to strike both military targets and civilian areas in the Kherson region and the city of Kherson.

Despite the deployment of electronic warfare systems in the region, which reportedly neutralize 70–80% of incoming FPV drones, hundreds still reach civilian targets.

Between May 26 and June 1, Ukrainian forces recorded 2,314 UAV incidents in the region, including 906 within the Kherson municipality, according to Pavlo Drohal, spokesperson for the Kherson operational-tactical group. Electronic warfare systems neutralized or disrupted 1,658 UAVs, including 744 in Kherson itself.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the Kherson regional military administration, reported that Russian forces fired approximately 10,000 shells at the region in May. As a result, 25 people were killed — including one child — and 212 others were injured.

In late March, investigative journalists identified several Russian commanders allegedly involved in drone attacks on civilians in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.

The investigation focused on Telegram channels that frequently post footage of drone strikes on civilian targets, including “Viking Squad,” “Light at the End of the Tunnel,” “Moses,” and “From Mariupol to the Carpathians.”
