Russian forces targeted the site of an annual memorial run for fallen Ukrainian soldiers with an Iskander-M missile in the Kharkiv region.
The Kharkiv Regional Police reported this.
According to the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the run was organized in the village of Natalyne, Berestyn district, Kharkiv region, more than 120 kilometers from the front line.
Three people were killed in the attack, including the community’s police officer, Senior Lieutenant Oleksii Zahvazdin.The “I Honor Warriors, I Run for the Heroes of Ukraine” run is an annual nationwide patriotic memorial event honoring fallen Ukrainian defenders. It was launched in 2018 and is held in conjunction with Ukraine’s Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine on August 29.
Under the procedural supervision of the Berestyn District Prosecutor’s Office, a pretrial investigation was launched under Part 3 of Article 367 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code — official negligence resulting in deaths.
As part of the investigation, authorities will examine the actions of military administration officials who organized the event. In particular, investigators will determine whether they ensured participants’ safety, considered the prevailing security situation, and took all necessary measures to prevent threats to people’s lives and health.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Defense Forces eliminated Russian war criminal Artem Belikov, who was involved in the shooting of two vehicles carrying civilians in the Kyiv region.
