General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) has received an order to supply up to 256 Piranha V armored personnel carriers for Germany.

General Dynamics European Land Systems reported about this on its website.

These armored personnel carriers will be equipped with long-range telecommunications network – Tactical Wide Area Network (TaWAN).

The purchase of wheeled vehicles is part of the modernization efforts of the German Bundeswehr.

The order for the delivery of up to 256 modern PIRANHA vehicles has a volume in the three-digit million range for the initial batch of 58 vehicles. First series vehicles will be delivered in 2026.

For this project, GDELS is working with German defense company Rheinmetall, which is the prime contractor for the entire project.

GDELS also plans to produce the Piranha V in Germany in the future and set up a logistics support center there.

The PIRANHA 5 will be equipped with a 15-meter telescopic mast system, which will serve as a highly mobile, armored connectivity point in the TaWAN network.

As previously reported, the Ministry of National Defence of Romania allocated funding to purchase 150 Swiss-designed Piranha V armored personnel carriers.

German Army Procurement

In January, Rheinmetall received an order to supply nearly 600 trucks to the German Armed Forces.

These vehicles will be used for logistical support of the German army.

Under the agreement with the Bundeswehr, 568 MAN trucks will be delivered in total, worth more than €330 million. This will include 349 UTF (unarmored vehicle) trucks in 5-ton and 15-ton versions, as well as 219 variable body trucks, 121 of which will have a protected driver’s cab.
