A missile alert was issued in Omsk for the first time since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The Astra reported the incident.
Residents of the Omsk region received the alert at 10:28 a.m. local time.
The message was sent via SMS to mobile phones. Information about a general air alert in the region was also broadcast on local television channels.
The message included an alert announcement and a phone number for emergency services. The television broadcast carried a more detailed instruction.
The recommendations were the following:
“Turn off electricity, gas, water, extinguish fires in stoves. Take personal protective equipment, documents, a supply of food and water. Warn neighbors and, if necessary, assist the sick and elderly to go outside. Proceed to a protective structure as soon as possible or take cover. Maintain calm and order. Follow messages from the Omsk Region Civil Defense Headquarters.”
The Omsk region and the city of Omsk are located more than 2,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. As of now, the maximum confirmed range of Ukrainian drones is about 1,800 kilometers.
This happened on April 25, 2026, when Ukrainian strike drones reportedly attacked Yekaterinburg and Chelyabinsk in the central Ural region.
However, analysts note that flight range estimates may vary because calculations based on the state border do not account for possible launch points.
At the same time, in March 2026, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu in fact acknowledged an increase in the range of Ukrainian UAVs, enabling strikes deep in Russian territory.
Militarnyi previously reported that in October 2025, Lutyi kamikaze drones struck the Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery, located approximately 1,400 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
