On Wednesday, May 7, strike drones attacked the Shaykovka air base in the Kaluga region and the Kubinka air base in the Moscow region of Russia.
The Astra Telegram channel reported on this.
Following these attacks, satellites from NASA’s fire monitoring system detected fires at these military sites.
Ilya Tumanov, a Russian propagandist and administrator of the aviation Telegram channel Fighterbomber, confirmed the recent drone attacks and claimed that the Ukrainian Defense Forces are targeting locations housing personnel and equipment set to take part in the upcoming Moscow parade.
Notably, the Russian Knights and Swifts aerobatic teams, stationed at the Kubinka airfield, regularly perform during the aerial segment of the event with Su-30, Su-35, and MiG-29 aircraft.
The impact of these strikes on the two Russian military air bases remains unclear at this time.
At the Shaykovka air base, Russian Tu-22M3 bombers are stationed as part of the 52nd Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment (military unit 33310) of the Russian Federation, which is involved in missile strikes on Ukrainian territory using Kh-22/32 missiles.
This air base has already become a target for strikes by Ukraine’s long-range drones. According to satellite images taken after the attack on the night of March 31, 2025, it was revealed that a storage facility for Kh-22/32 missiles and a technical maintenance building were destroyed.
Shaykovka was attacked previously – in September 2024, August 2023, and October 2022.
It is worth noting that on April 2, the Russian Aerospace Forces lost a Tu-22M3 bomber due to an accident.
The bomber crashed near the village of Buryat, Usolsky district, Irkutsk region.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the crew ejected, and the pilot was killed.
