Strike drones have attacked the facility of Russia’s only fiber optic cable manufacturer once again. These cables are also used in FPV drones.
The Astra Telegram channel reported on this.
The manufacturing plant belongs to the Optical Fiber Systems company and is located in the city of Saransk.
The attack took place on the morning of May 7, 2025, after which a fire broke out in the main building of the company, as well as in structures near the facility.
Currently, the local authorities and regional government have not confirmed the attack on the facility. However, following the strike, classes were canceled in schools, universities, and kindergartens, and a ban was imposed on publishing photos, videos, or any information about the aftermath of the attack.
The facility has six production lines, which produce 2,000 kilometers of fiber optic cables daily, with a total daily output of 12,000 kilometers. The annual production is around 4 million kilometers.
Since the products of the Optical Fiber Systems company are used by the Russians on the front lines, the facility has already been attacked by strike drones.
Specifically, on April 5, 2025, the facility was attacked at 2:20 a.m. local time — at that time, locals counted up to ten explosions.
Some of the explosions were directly related to the attack on the production facility of the Fiber Optic System company, which is located in the city of Saransk at coordinates 54.2250739, 45.1957191.
It should be noted that the company uses Western equipment, including Austrian Nextrom and Chinese Vacree, for its production.
Militarnyi previously reported that on May 4, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Russian radio equipment manufacturer Strela in the Suzemka district of the Bryansk region.
According to publicly available sources, the Strela plant manufactures radar and radio components, including transformers, chokes, coils, and interference filters.
