Strike drones attacked Russia’s only manufacturer of fiber-optic cables, which are also used in FPV drones.
The attack on the company was reported by the local Telegram channel “Saransk. Incidents”.
The attack took place on April 5, 2025, at approximately 2:20 am local time. Local residents could observe about ten explosions.
Some of the explosions were directly related to the attack on the production facility of the Fiber Optic System company, which is located in the city of Saransk at coordinates 54.2250739, 45.1957191.
The company had six production lines that produced 2,000 kilometers of fiber per day, with a total daily output of 12,000 kilometers.
Annual fiber production volumes are about 4 million kilometers.
To do this, the company used Western equipment, including products from the Austrian company Nextrom, as well as Chinese systems from Vacree.
Since this company is the only manufacturer of fiber optics, disruption or destruction of its operation could affect the use of fiber-optic cables on FPV drones, which are actively used by the Russian side at the front.
The strike on the facility was also confirmed by the head of the region, Artem Zdunov, who said that the night before drones had attacked one of the enterprises of the Republic of Mordovia, and the relevant services were involved in eliminating the consequences. Mr. Zdunov did not specify which enterprise it was.
“All necessary forces and means have been deployed to eliminate the consequences,” he wrote.
It should be noted that the enterprise is located about 660 km from the state border of Ukraine.
Earlier, Militarnyi reported that early in the morning on March 20, drones attacked the Saratov region. The explosions were heard in the area of the Engels 2 military airfield, where, according to the video, ammunition is detonating and a thick column of smoke is rising.
