Drones Strike Orsknefteorgsintez Oil Refinery

On the morning of August 11, Ukrainian drones struck the Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery in the Russian city of Orsk, in the Orenburg Region.

The strike was reported based on an OSINT analysis by Militarnyi, as well as videos and photos shared by monitoring channels.

A fire broke out at the refinery following the strike. Thick black smoke could be seen from several parts of the city, according to eyewitnesses.

Orsknefteorgsintez Oil Refinery

The Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery is part of the Safmar industrial group and is one of the key oil-refining facilities in the region.

Preliminarily, a diesel fuel hydrotreating unit or a hydrocracking complex was hit. At least two separate fire hotspots were recorded.

The oil refinery has a designed processing capacity of approximately 6 million tonnes of crude oil per year and produces more than 30 types of petroleum products, including motor gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, and other products.

The facility plays an important role in supplying petroleum products to the Urals and Volga regions, with some of its products exported.

After 4 a.m., Orenburg Region Governor Yevgeny Solntsev announced a drone attack threat in the region.

At 6:20 a.m., he reported that the Carpet plan had been introduced in Orsk and surrounding areas within a 100-kilometer radius. The measure involves suspending air traffic until the drone threat has passed. Orenburg Airport is also not accepting or departing flights for safety reasons.

The Orsknefteorgsintez refinery has previously been targeted by Ukrainian attack drones, including in late April this year, as well as in October and November 2025.

The Russian oil refinery is located approximately 1,400 km from Ukraine’s state border.

On August 10, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck ZapSibNeftekhim, Russia’s largest petrochemical facility, located in the city of Tobolsk, more than 2,200 kilometers from the front line.
