Khrabrovo Airport in Kaliningrad, Russia, temporarily suspended operations after authorities announced a drone attack threat.
Rosaviatsiya, Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency, announced this.
This appears to be the first time since the start of the full-scale war that a civilian airport in Kaliningrad has officially shut down due to the threat of drone attacks.
The agency claimed that the temporary suspension of arrivals and departures was introduced “to ensure flight safety,” without specifying the exact reasons for the restrictions.
Meanwhile, the Kaliningrad region account of Russia’s emergency warning system announced a “drone threat” alert.
The Russian side thus effectively confirmed the threat of an aerial attack involving drones.
The airport restrictions remained in place for about an hour and a half, after which Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency announced that normal operations at the airport had resumed.
No official information has been released about explosions, air defense activity, or possible strikes on targets in the Kaliningrad region.
The Kaliningrad region is a strategic Russian exclave located between Poland and Lithuania, hosting Baltic Fleet military facilities and elements of Russia’s air defense system.
Due to its geographic position, the region plays an important role in Russia’s military logistics in the Baltic area.
Recently, Russian airports have increasingly been forced to temporarily suspend operations amid threats of drone attacks, particularly in the central and border regions of the Russian Federation.
Kaliningrad has become the latest region where an air raid alert has directly affected civilian air traffic.
Militarnyi previously reported that Russia is preparing an airfield in Kaliningrad for potential attacks targeting aircraft parking areas.
