The British bulk carrier MINOAN DIGNITY was attacked off the coast of Oman.
According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the incident took place near the Musandam Peninsula, Oman.
A UKMTO security official said the Liberian-flagged vessel was hit by an unidentified projectile while sailing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The strike damaged the engine room and killed one crew member.
Omani Coast Guard personnel are currently assisting the crew.
A similar attack occurred on August 14, when UKMTO received a confirmed report that another bulk carrier had been hit by an unidentified projectile, which struck the vessel’s hull. The crew was reportedly safe, and no information on the extent of the damage was provided.
The attack was likely carried out by the Houthis, similar to the August 11 attack on a British cargo vessel off the coast of Yemen.
On July 20, the Houthis announced a blockade of the Bab al-Mandeb Strait near Saudi Arabia.
On March 16, a senior Houthi official said that blocking the Bab al-Mandeb Strait would be one of the main options available to the Ansar Allah movement.
On August 11, Saudi Arabia initiated the formation of a naval task force to counter the Houthi blockade and protect shipping in the Red Sea and nearby straits.
