The cargo ship Tihamah came under attack by the Houthis while transiting the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

According to the United Kingdom’s Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the incident occurred off the coast of Al-Moha, Yemen.

The British maritime security firm Ambrey told Reuters that the vessel, flying the Tanzanian flag, was attacked by the Houthis, resulting in the deaths of three crew members.

Two Pakistanis and one Indonesian were killed while the Tihamah was en route from Salalah, Oman, via Djibouti.

According to a statement from the UKMTO, the British government is investigating the incident.

A similar attack on another vessel occurred on July 5, 2026, when the UKMTO received a report of an incident near the city of Al-Hudaydah, Yemen. The British vessel sent a distress signal stating that it was under attack by a group of unknown armed assailants.

On July 20, the Houthis announced a blockade of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait by Saudi Arabia.

On March 16, a high-ranking representative of the Yemeni Houthis stated that blocking the Bab el-Mandeb Strait would be one of the main options for the Ansar Allah movement.

On August 11, Saudi Arabia initiated the creation of a naval task force to counter the Houthi blockade and protect shipping in the Red Sea and adjacent straits.
