Luxembourg has joined the Czech initiative to purchase artillery ammunition for Ukraine outside the alliance.
The Minister of Defense of Luxembourg, Yuriko Backes, announced this on her X (Twitter) account.
As part of its participation in this initiative, Luxembourg will allocate a certain amount of money for the purchase of artillery shells.
As Backes noted in her statement, the purchase was part of a joint effort to help Ukraine destroy the enemy.
“This will be part of our overall effort to provide much needed capabilities to Ukraine in their fight against the Russian aggressor,” Backes said.
The amount of money Luxembourg will allocate for the purchase of shells has not yet been disclosed.
Previously, Czech President Petr Pavel said that the initiative to purchase 800,000 artillery shells for Ukraine is fully funded.
“As of this morning (Thursday), we have collected the total amount for the purchase of all ammunition, that is, 800,000 shells. The Czech Republic will provide information to all the countries that are providing the weapons about the schedule and how we will proceed,” President Pavel said.
President Petr Pavel declined to disclose the specific amounts contributed by individual countries.
“It would probably be unfair to those countries that contribute if we did not discuss this with them,” he said.
Militarnyi previously reported that Norway would allocate up to $153 million for the Czech initiative to purchase 800,000 artillery shells for Ukraine.
Previously, some European countries, including Lithuania, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, joined this initiative.
