The Ukrainian Defense Forces launched strikes on the port of Kerch in Russian-occupied Crimea and on Port Kavkaz in Russia’s Krasnodar region, sparking a large fire at the facilities.

According to the Crimean Wind Telegram channel, the attack occurred overnight between June 20 and June 21, 2026, while missile and drone alerts were in effect across the region.

As early as 1:29 a.m., NASA’s FIRMS monitoring system detected a fire at the Kerch port facility. At 2:24 a.m., another fire was recorded at Port Kavkaz.

According to photos and videos shared by local residents, the epicenter of the fire in Kerch was an oil storage depot.

The fire reportedly broke out at an oil storage facility located within the AEGAZ Terminal complex at Kerch Port. The terminal is a specialized hub for cargo handling and the transshipment of liquefied gas. It also operates a fuel terminal that supplies ships with fuel and services the Crimea–Kavkaz ferry route.

Kerch Port is located at 45.334917, 36.465814

Port Kavkaz was also targeted in the attack. In terms of cargo throughput, it ranks as the fifth-largest port in Russia and the second-largest in the Black Sea–Azov basin, behind only Novorossiysk.

The oil depot at Port Kavkaz plays a key role in fuel supply operations, providing fuel to occupied Crimea as well as to Russian-controlled areas of the Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Donetsk regions.

Militarnyi previously reported that on the night of June 19–20, 2026, the Ukrainian Defense Forces launched strikes against energy infrastructure in Russian-occupied Crimea, causing major fires at multiple facilities.

The main target was the Tavriya Thermal Power Plant (also known as the Simferopol CCGT Power Plant). Ukrainian strikes also reportedly hit a storage terminal used for handling and storing liquefied gas and petroleum products operated by the Crimean fuel company TES, as well as a gas distribution station near the village of Zhuravlivka.
