Helsing’s German HX-2 drones in Ukraine demonstrated low accuracy in combat conditions due to technical problems.

WELT.de reports that, according to a Ukrainian document submitted to the German Ministry of Defense, the HX-2 hit its target in only five out of 14 cases.

This means an accuracy rate of only 35.7%.

According to the journalists’ investigation, the reasons were mostly unrelated to the actions of Russian air defense systems and were systemic in nature.

In particular, unstable video transmission, limited target acquisition capabilities, and rigid touch control technology were noted, forcing operators to perform risky maneuvers during flight.

A previous Bloomberg investigation reported other problems.

During front-line tests conducted by the 1st Separate Center for Unmanned Aviation Systems, only 25% of HX-2 drones were able to launch.

Three sources who spoke to Bloomberg said the launches failed due to mechanical problems with the catapult.

Helsing’s position

The Bloomberg article states that Ukraine “refrained from placing new orders for Helsing drones.”

In 2025, it was reported that Helsing would manufacture 6,000 HX-2 strike drones for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Helsing stated that the real situation is different: there are specific requests from more than six units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to order HX-2.

“In fact, after recent front-line tests, the unit that tested the system requested more than 1,000 additional drones to perform combat missions,” the company said.

According to Helsing representatives, the HX-2 has been added to the Ukrainian army’s official centralized ordering system.

“Helsing currently supplies several hundred drones to Ukraine every month,” the company said.

Helsing also added that during military trials in Germany, the UK, and Kenya, the HX-2 consistently demonstrated a hit rate close to 100%.

The drone itself weighs 12 kg and is equipped with four electric motors in the tail section and has a maximum speed of 220 kilometers per hour.

According to Helsing, this kamikaze drone has a range of up to 100 km.

The declared total weight of the HX-2 suggests that the drone is equipped with a warhead weighing several kilograms.

The developers claim that, thanks to the use of artificial intelligence technology, the kamikaze drone has high autonomy in conditions of electronic warfare and can effectively hit enemy targets.
