Wagner`s mercenary who was preparing strikes on the energy sector of Ukraine has been detained in the Rivne region

The SSU detained a Wagner militant who was infiltrated into Ukraine by Russian military intelligence to conduct sabotage.

The arrest of the saboteur took place on the territory of the Sarny district of the Rivne region.

This was carried out during a multi-stage special operation.

According to the Security Service of Ukraine, the saboteur was tasked with arriving from Belarus to the Rivne region to adjust Russian air attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

The SSU learned about such plans of the aggressor during the stay of the enemy saboteur in Belarus. Since then, the Ukrainian Security Service has gradually documented his criminal actions from crossing the state border to arriving at the sabotage site in Ukraine.

The saboteur was detained when he tried to pin several GPS trackers on the pillars of power lines feeding the Kyiv agglomeration. At the signals of these “beacons,” Russian invaders tried to adjust the targeted strike on energy facilities, in particular with the use of Shahed-type attack drones.

According to the Rivne Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the man also had Sim cards of the Ukrainian mobile operator. In addition, in order to conspire with his criminal activity, the saboteur used a fake passport of a citizen of Ukraine.

The investigation found that the 34-year-old foreigner in 2014-2017 was a member of several illegal armed groups of the so-called “L/DPR,” in which he fought against Ukraine.

At the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, the militant joined PMC Wagner, in the ranks of which he stormed Bakhmut and nearby settlements. Subsequently, he returned to Belarus, where he received a task from Russian military intelligence (GRU) to prepare sabotage on the border territory of Ukraine.

On January 11 of this year, a militant illegally crossed the border of Ukraine in order to carry out a sabotage that was supposed to black out the central regions of the country.

Currently, the suspect has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention without the right to bail.

The sanction of the article provides for a sentence of imprisonment for a term of 15 years, or life imprisonment, with property confiscation.
