The United States and Iran conducted new strikes in the Persian Gulf region.
CNN reported on this.
During the night of May 28, four Iranian drones attacked a commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
However, US air defenses shot them down. In response, the US military launched airstrikes on an Iranian military facility near the port of Bandar Abbas.
According to a US official, the targets were a ground command center and a launch site from which another drone attack was expected to be launched.
The source told the publication that the Iranian facility “posed a threat to US forces and commercial traffic” in the region. He described the actions as “purely defensive in nature and intended to preserve the ceasefire.”
Later, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced a strike on a US base, which they claimed had been used to launch the above-mentioned attacks.
Tehran did not specify the location of the targeted base. Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti armed forces, in whose territory a major US military base is located, said the country’s air defense systems intercepted missiles and drones.
Iranian news agency Tasnim, citing a military source, also reported that an American oil tanker allegedly attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. According to the report, IRGC forces opened fire, forcing the vessel to turn back.
The US military recently launched a series of strikes in southern Iran near the Strait of Hormuz. The targets included boats laying mines and missile launchers along the coast.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) described the strikes as “defensive.”
At the time, explosions were heard in the Iranian cities of Bandar Abbas, Bandar Sirik, and Jask. All three cities are located along the strait’s coastline.
