Ukraine’s Defense Forces launched a comprehensive strike on the Russian Navy base in Novorossiysk, Krasnodar Krai, overnight on September 9.
Robert “Magyar” Brovdi, Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) Commander, reported this on his social media accounts.
According to him, the strike resulted in the loss of several Russian vessels, including missile carriers that had been used to launch attacks on Ukraine.
NASA’s FIRMS satellites detected a fire near the Russian Black Sea Fleet base.
Novorossiysk became a key base for Russia’s Black Sea Fleet after the country withdrew most of its warships from temporarily occupied Sevastopol following Ukrainian strikes. The base has already been attacked repeatedly.
Last night, the USF also struck Russian aviation and radar equipment.
According to the commander, Ukrainian drone operators destroyed a Su-33 carrier-based fighter jet and an Mi-8 helicopter near Anapa.
In addition, near Gelendzhik, Ukrainian forces destroyed a 39N6 Kasta-2E2 360-degree surveillance radar and a 92N6 target acquisition radar from an S-300/S-400 SAM system. The radar illuminates targets for SAMs and is one of the system’s most critical components.
The mission to destroy this equipment was carried out by operators from the 1st Separate UAS Center of the USF.
In addition, Ukrainian drones struck a fuel oil terminal at the port of Novorossiysk last night.
The strike sparked a fire at the terminal, damaging at least one storage tank.
The attacked terminal specializes in storing and handling fuel oil and light petroleum products, with an annual capacity of around 4 million tonnes.
