Ukraine has ordered four of the latest Franco-Italian SAMP/T NG air defense systems.
After their delivery, Ukraine will become the first combat user of the systems, the Office of the President of Ukraine reported.
France will temporarily transfer two SAMP/T systems to Ukraine while the ordered SAMP/T NG systems are being produced.
After the new systems arrive, the SAMP/T systems will be returned to France.
The purchase of the SAMP/T NG systems will be financed through tranches of the Ukraine Support Loan (USL) for 2026 and 2027.
The battery includes a multifunctional radar, a command post, and launchers.
Five GM400 radars, one GF300 radar, and one Kronos radar will also be included in the 2026 USL delivery schedule.
France has committed to delivering the SAMP/T NG systems as soon as possible, in particular through the phased deployment of modules after their delivery and certification, starting in 2027.
By the end of 2026, Ukraine plans to deploy one GF300 radar as the first component of the SAMP/T NG system. Five GM400 radars are due to arrive by the end of 2027.
The system uses Aster 30 missiles capable of intercepting targets at ranges of up to 120 kilometers, depending on the target type.
France and Italy have decided to accelerate the delivery of the agreed number of Aster 30 missiles by October 2026.
In addition, the countries have authorized the licensed production of these missiles in Ukraine.
