New SCORPION Rapid Response Unit Formed Within the Ukrainian Military Police

A new special unit, SCORPION, has been created within the Military Police (VSP) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The new unit will serve as a rapid-response and strike force for the Military Police’s regional departments, according to the unit’s social media accounts.

The primary mission of the special unit’s personnel will be to prevent and stop criminal or other offenses within the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In addition, unit personnel will be involved in protecting property from theft and other criminal offenses. Servicemen will also participate in counterterrorism and counter-sabotage efforts at military facilities.

A separate set of tasks for the new special unit is envisaged for the period when martial law or a state of emergency is in effect in the country.

During this time, SCORPION will additionally perform functions related to participating in the fight against enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups.

In addition, the unit’s fighters will be involved in maintaining law and order and military discipline in military units.
