Russia is preparing to import jet fuel from Japan through a network of traders.

This was reported by Reuters, citing informed sources.

According to the sources, at least 200,000 barrels of jet fuel are scheduled to be loaded in the Japanese city of Chiba in the first half of July.

The cargo will first be shipped to South Korea.

It will then be transferred to another tanker — likely via a ship-to-ship transfer at the South Korean port of Yeosu — and the vessel will proceed to Russia.

The tanker’s final destination remains unknown at this time.

South Korea’s Ministry of Industry declined to comment on the situation to the publication, and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry did not provide an immediate response to journalists’ inquiries.

It is noted that the previous shipment to Russia consisted of 22,000 barrels of aviation fuel from the city of Yeosu in South Korea in Liutyi 2022.

At that time, the cargo was delivered to Vladivostok in Russia’s Far East.

According to data from the analytics firm Kpler, Russian aviation fuel exports this year have fallen to approximately 13,000 barrels per day, primarily to Turkey.

By comparison, last year Russia exported about 30,000 barrels of fuel per day.

Last year, Ukraine struck the Kristall oil storage facility of the Rosrezerv combine in Engels, which held aviation fuel for the Russian Federation’s strategic aviation.
