Belarus Sets Up Checkpoints With Anti-Drone Nets at Entrances to Gomel

Belarus has set up checkpoints with anti-drone nets at entrances to Gomel, including on roads leading toward Ukraine.

The Belarusian publication Flagstock reported this.

The checkpoints include concrete blocks, sandbags, structures fitted with anti-drone nets and road signs requiring drivers to reduce their speed.

Their installation coincided with large-scale training exercises involving territorial defense forces in the Gomel region.

One of the checkpoints was set up at the entrance to Gomel from Chernihiv, on the M-10 highway toward the settlement of Novobilichi. Another appeared on Korenovskoye Shosse, a road leading toward Zyabrovka.

The work began in early September. Concrete foundation blocks and sandbags were delivered to the sites.

Later, structures with anti-drone nets began to be mounted on poles, while road signs requiring drivers to reduce speed were installed along the road.

Flagstock drew attention to a photograph published by the Gomel territorial defense Telegram channel. It shows participants in the current military training exercises posing near one of the checkpoints equipped with an anti-drone net.
Based on local landmarks, the journalists determined that the photograph was taken on the M-10 highway opposite the Chabarok restaurant. This made it possible to link the construction of the checkpoints with the territorial defense exercises currently taking place in the region.

The checkpoints are likely part of practical exercises by Belarusian territorial defense forces rather than newly established permanent checkpoints.

Scheduled training for reservists in the territorial defense forces is taking place from Sept. 1 to 25 in Gomel, Svetlogorsk and Oktyabrsky districts of the Gomel region. The Gomel region borders Ukraine, while the M-10 highway, where one of the checkpoints was installed, leads to Gomel from the south.

Military infrastructure in the region is also continuing to expand in 2026. Recently, Belarus began construction of a railway serving military facilities near the borders of Ukraine’s Kyiv and Chernihiv regions.
