Russia Initiates Counterterrorism Operation in Dagestan, Four Casualties Reported

Last night, Russia initiated a counterterrorism operation in Dagestan, resulting in the deaths of four individuals accused of planning an attack on a district police station.

The Russian National Anti-Terrorist Committee confirmed the operation via its official social media channels.

The incident took place in the Kirovskiy district of Makhachkala, the administrative center of the Republic of Dagestan.

The Russian National Anti-Terrorist Committee initially reported that a vehicle containing four individuals was discovered in the capital of Dagestan late last night.

According to the Committee’s statement, when authorities attempted to detain the suspects, they reportedly opened fire with automatic weapons at the traffic police.

The head of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation in Dagestan announced a counter-terrorism operation in the Kirovskiy district of Makhachkala.

Russian police, along with reinforcements, successfully intercepted a car with four individuals on the outskirts of the village of Semender.

It is claimed that local residents were even evacuated near the blockade in Dagestan.

After the execution of the four people, the Russian National Anti-Terrorist Committee stated that they had planned to attack the facility of the regional office of the Russian Interior Ministry in the city of Kaspiysk but did not provide any actual evidence of this.

Also, somehow, a cache was found nearby with grenade launchers, improvised explosive devices, grenades, assault rifles, a pistol, and ammunition. No evidence was provided that the found items belonged to the victims.

“According to available data, the gang’s activities were coordinated by members of the Islamic State, an international terrorist organization banned in Russia,” the Russian National Anti-Terrorist Committee wrote after the execution of four people.

No further details have been provided regarding additional casualties from the Russian counterterrorism operation in Dagestan.
