Russia has planned a military budget of $175.5 billion in 2025

Russia will spend a record $175.5 billion on military needs in 2025.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law. The document is titled “On the Federal Budget for 2025 and for the Planning Period 2026-2027“.

According to the new military budget, in 2025, the Russian government will allocate 6.31% of gross domestic product (GDP) for defense spending. This funding aims to improve Russia’s production capabilities in the field of new weapons, ammunition, and other military equipment.

Compared to 2024, expenditures increased by USD 35 billion from $140 billion, which was 6% of GDP in the previous year.

Western experts point out the importance of this increase in the defense budget, which will be aimed at expanding existing capacities and priority areas of production.

First of all, there is an urgent issue of expanding the production of artillery shells, as the Russian Armed Forces are trying to gain an advantage in the number of shells for advanced artillery units.

The repair and production of armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles are no less important, whose losses are significant for the enemy army. Hence, the issue of their repair, restoration, and production is important.

In addition, significant funds will be allocated for the production and modernization of the existing missile fleet, such as the Iskander missile system, and for increasing the production of cruise missiles and new delivery vehicles.

The Russian Ministry of Defense and Rostec are also actively cooperating to speed up the production of aircraft and modernize Tu-160 bombers and their further production.

Militarnyi previously reported that in early 2024, representatives of the United Aircraft Corporation reported a high degree of workload at the Su-35 and Su-57 production plant.

According to them, the production of Su-35S and Su-57 aircraft is scheduled until 2028, including the possibility of extending the production contracts. In addition, the company aims to fulfill its plan to hire up to 800 new employees to assemble combat aircraft by the end of 2024.

This is primarily due to the announced increase in the production of combat aircraft that Russia is losing in the skies over Ukraine.
