Turkey Develops Dron Kalkanı Turret Armed with 12-Gauge Shotguns

The Turkish company Turaç has developed the Dron Kalkanı (Drone Shield) turret, designed to protect military equipment and facilities from FPV drones.

Fatih Altunbaş, CEO of Turaç, spoke about this to the Anadolu news agency. According to the developers, the system scans the area using various sensors and detects and tracks targets at a distance of 600–800 meters.

The turret is based on a twin mount of two Derya 12-gauge semi-automatic shotguns, which, at a distance of 150 meters, fire simultaneously to create a dense cloud of projectiles to neutralize UAVs.

The system can be integrated onto wheeled and tracked armored vehicles, ships, ground-based robotic systems, and fixed installations. Thanks to its low power consumption, the module operates from a standard onboard power supply and does not require the installation of additional generators.

The Derya MAX (or MK-12) is a semi-automatic 12-gauge smoothbore shotgun based on the AR-15 platform with a gas-operated action. The weapon is equipped with detachable box magazines holding 2 to 10 rounds (higher-capacity drum magazines are also available) and features barrels that are primarily 50 cm long with muzzle attachments.

As a reminder, in May, Italy’s Beretta Defense Technologies unveiled a similar remotely controlled anti-drone turret, the LIVET.

In addition, Ukrainian Armor has developed an unmanned module that automatically detects, tracks, and destroys drones using shotguns.
