Local Roskomnadzor Chief Killed in Zaporizhzhia Region

In the Russian-occupied town of Kyrylivka in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, an employee of Roskomnadzor, Russia’s Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media, was killed following a strike on recreation centers.

The information was announced by the agency’s press service, according to ASTRA.

The victim was identified as 54-year-old Mikhail Ivanov, who had served in the Russian Armed Forces for more than 20 years. Since May 2023, he had been heading the Zaporizhzhia regional office of the Main Radio Frequency Centre, a subordinate organisation of Roskomnadzor.

The attack on the facilities in the Russian-occupied settlement on the coast of the Sea of Azov took place on the night of 25 July.

The strike targeted the Aleon and Beluga recreation centers, which Russian forces were using for military purposes.

According to RIA Pivden, the Aleon recreation center housed Russian officers, while the Beluga facility accommodated security personnel and senior military commanders of the occupying forces.

The deceased official headed a regional branch of the Main Radio Frequency Centre, a subordinate agency of Roskomnadzor, Russia’s Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media.

According to Meduza, the Main Radio Frequency Centre is responsible for monitoring communications and the radio frequency spectrum, as well as enforcing Russia’s censorship legislation.
