A Russian fighter jet made a dangerous approach to the German frigate Hamburg in the Baltic Sea. The incident was called another deliberate provocation by the Kremlin against NATO.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated this, Welt reports.

According to him, this was the second such incident in the last two days. Pistorius regarded the actions of the Russian pilots as an intensive check of the borders of the Alliance countries.

The incident took place amid a growing number of similar maneuvers by Moscow near NATO borders. The Minister emphasized that such actions by the Kremlin have political rather than military implications.

“Putin wants to provoke us. He is trying to test and identify the weaknesses of NATO member states,” Pistorius emphasized.

He also compared the situation to the recent violations of Polish and Estonian airspace by Russian planes and drones. In military circles, these maneuvers are viewed as deliberate provocations that are not operationally necessary. The incident has caused concern among the Baltic states, which have repeatedly warned of Russia’s growing aggressive activity in the air and at sea.

Denmark also reported an incident involving unidentified persons. Unidentified drones approached an air base where Danish fighter jets are stationed.
