In North Korea, new models of multiple launch rocket systems, as well as their variants with ballistic weapons, were demonstrated during firing tests.
Rodong media outlet reported on this.
During the firings, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un observed them. The samples shown included two wheeled missile systems.
One of them, positioned as an analog of HIMARS, fired guided rockets. The system reportedly uses 18 guides to launch 240-mm rockets and has universal launch mounts for both rockets of this type and ballistic missiles.
According to the agency, the rockets received elements of artificial intelligence and a range of over 100 km.
Another system was also a multiple-launch rocket system, which was presented on May 27, 2026, during its first firing. Judging by the photo, it also has universal launch mounts.
During the May firing, the system launched rockets, while during the June tests, a ballistic missile was launched from the same platform.
The system was first demonstrated during a parade marking the 80th anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea’s founding.
Due to the launcher’s placement, it was previously assumed that the system is a version of the Israeli long-range Spike-NLOS system and that the antenna is designed to maintain two-way communication with a missile or drone, thereby correcting its flight and potentially controlling it. The launcher is placed on a three-axis chassis and is equipped with 22 launch tubes. However, the tests did not confirm this assessment.
In addition to the missile system firings, there were also demonstration firings from the M-2018 152 mm self-propelled artillery system, including direct fire and indirect fire.
