Over the course of a single day, NATO surveillance aircraft conducted missions in two key areas — over the Black Sea and near Belarus.
This was reported by the analytical channel Coffe Report.
A U.S. ARTEMIS II reconnaissance aircraft was spotted over the Black Sea, while a NATO AWACS aircraft operated over the Baltic states and Central Europe. Another E-3 AWACS and an aerial tanker were also airborne.
The flights were likely intended to gather intelligence on Russian forces and their activities in the Baltic and Black Sea regions.
According to monitoring sources, ARTEMIS II flew over the central Black Sea, south of Crimea. The Bombardier Challenger 650, registered as N159L, is operated by the U.S. Army for reconnaissance missions and intelligence gathering.
Meanwhile, a NATO AWACS aircraft, registration number LX-N90445, operated over the Baltic states and Central Europe. The aircraft is designed for long-range radar surveillance, detecting airborne targets and coordinating air operations.
Thus, the allies likely gathered intelligence on Russian military activity in different areas at the same time. In particular, ARTEMIS II monitored the area near Crimea, while the AWACS aircraft operated over the Baltic region and Central Europe.
